Groovy...

the kids' uncle brian gave them some really groovy old lava lamps - one of them even says Camel right on it - old school. they love them and they provide all kinds of procrastination fodder when it's bed time. you can waste quite a few minutes checking out the different movements of the 'lava' when it's 'light's out' time... thanks uncle brian!

Visit to Lexington

greg got to see his long-time friend bobby. good conversation about restaurant service, how loud is too loud for music that is supposed to provide ambiance, concealed weapons permits, and Calvin Russell's Crossroads (you should check it out if you haven't heard it). also, maggie, her grandmother and i got impromptu but very good manicures. it was maggie's first manicure as far as we could recall - she got black nail polish and it looked great!

Patrick Honors Day at Allisonville Elementary

patrick got high honor roll and perfect attendance recognition at the honors breakfast at allisonville elementary last week. the whole fam showed up to support our boy even though it turned out they just sent home his ribbon and certificate home with him to cut down on time and they all just stood on the stage and had their names read. it was good to be there, but the whole leaving the house at 6:45 A.M. seemed extreme.

Visiting John in the Hospital

Patrick and Dakota had a good time visiting our friend John in the hospital recently (he is doing great so it's all good). They really enjoyed it when he got to be up in the chair so they could have the bed to watch cartoons.

Greg's Nemesis!

Our chubby squirrel - he lives in the tree in our back yard and has managed to eat a hole in our (apparently) cheap trash can.

Fun at Holliday Park on an Unusually Warm March Saturday (with Dakota!)

Girl Scout Troop 1219 Go Green Fair!

maggie participated in her Girl Scout Troop's Bronze Award project - a Go Green Fair. the girls had a theme of reduce, reuse and recycle and they did a great job. the nice weather kept a lot of people away, but they still had a decent turnout. i learned a lot personally - did you know you can compost post-it notes? well, you can!

1st anniversary! february 14, 2009

in cincinnati at Bootsy's - good food, fun times.

patrick wrestling...that's what i said...

yes, our very own patrick tried a two week wrestling camp recently and he had a great time. he got a medal (which he really liked) and we are glad he found something that requires more physical movement that the wii and he actually liked it.

NEW CAT!

we are very excited to announce the arrival of our new cat! he doesn't have an official name yet, but he is a lovely almost 3 year-old tabby cat with one slightly deformed ear. he is very lovable and likes to play. he was very content at first, but a few hours in he has decided to reside only on the shelf in my closet - on top of my bags - yikes! that being said, i think he'll be happy here and we feel lucky to have him.

february 6 was a big day

february 6 - greg's birthday AND the girl scouts father-daughter dance. the dance had a tropical theme and so we found maggie this dress and greg borrowed this hawaiian shirt from a friend for the evening. they were both really excited to go. even though wearing a dress isn't usually maggie's favorite thing she wore it gladly and got all ready to go and they took off. after the dance, we all celebrated with a little cake!

pictures at butler

we had a few spare minutes one afternoon before we were going to pick up greg so we walked a bit around the butler campus in the snow.

allisonville elementary spelling bee january 2009

patrick participated in his school spelling bee representing his class (as maggie did the year before - go spelling!) sadly, he got a bit overly confident and got out on a common word he could spell in his sleep (spell - usually), but that's okay. patrick kept counting the remaining people and so he says he came in 7th. :) we were very proud of him for participating and for practicing all kinds of arcane words prior to the spelling bee - who knew it would be 'usually' that doomed him...? good job paddo!
